ECOFI signs join statement on outstanding issues in draft regulation

December 19, 2017 by Barbara Verplancken

In November, ECOFI joined 13 other industry associations to raise awareness of unresolved issues in the draft fertilising products regulation. The draft regulation is a complex piece of legislation, applying a new approach to regulating plant nutrition and soil fertility-related products . At the same time, it attempts to cover a much broader field of fertilising products than any single EU law has before. Some high-profile issues have dominated the discussions in both the European Parliament and the Council Working Party. The joint statement is intended to draw the attention of policymakers to a number of topics that have not received the attention they deserve. The overarching message is that the regulation should not be finalised until policymakers have resolved these issues sufficiently for the regulation to function properly.
